Created by dancer and choreographer Jinah Parker, and directed by Phaedra Michelle Scott, “SHE” is a multimedia choreoplay about violence against women, Sandra Bland, and survivors who are healing from the trauma of their abuse. Each performance will conclude with a 30-minute talk back with women directly impacted by sexual, domestic and police violence, along with advocates and thought leaders working on the issue.
Supporters of “SHE” include The Vagina Monologues creator Eve Ensler and film and television star Gabrielle Union. Acclaimed writer, activist, and cultural curator Kevin Powell is the producer of “SHE.”
Worldwide, 1 in 3 women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime. Further, when it comes to police violence, sexual abuse was found to be the second most reported form of misconduct next to excessive force. Through dance, music and storytelling “SHE” aims to create even greater awareness around the epidemic of sexual and gender violence, and uplift the many women and allies working hard to address it.
Featured actors in “SHE” (appearing courtesy of Actors’ Equity Association) include Bridget Barkan, Tammi Cubilette, Kimberley Dalton Mitchell, and Montana Lampert Hoover. Led by Jinah Parker, featured dancers include Sarah Elaz, Yuki Fukui, Britni Genovese, Evelyn Joy Hoelscher, Kerime Konur.
