Nearly $156,000 has been raised from Blackout for Human Right‘s #JUSTICEFORFLINT event, where more than 2,000 people — the majority of which were Flint residents — packed the The Whiting Auditorium Sunday night in Flint, Michigan. To date, more than 4,000 people have contributed personal donations via text and online, both during and after the livestream broadcast of the event, which aired exclusively on REVOLT. tv.
Sunday night’s performances and appearances included Grammy-Nominated Artists Janelle Monae, Ledisi, Andra Day, Jazmine Sullivan, Vic Mensa, and Musiq Soulchild, Grammy-Winning Artist Robert Glasper, Actor/Activist and Blackout Member Jesse Williams, “Empire” Star and Activist Jussie Smollett, EBONY Magazine Senior Editor Jamilah Lemieux, Hip-Hop Artist and Activist Jasiri X, Hip Hop Artist Mysonne, Hip Hop Artist Dej Loaf, Hip Hop Artists/Producers and Detroit nativesRoyce da 5’9 and Grammy-Winner Denaun Porter, and Flint native and Hip Hop Artist Jon Connor. Audience members and viewers were treated to a special surprise performance by legendary artist and musician Stevie Wonder.
